BNSS 2023 — replacing the CrPC
| Old (CrPC) | New (BNSS) | Subject |
|---|---|---|
| S.438 | S.482 | Anticipatory bail |
| S.439 | S.483 | Regular bail |

| — | S.185 | CCTV recording made mandatory for search of premises |
| — | S.193 | 90-day timeline for police investigation |
| — | S.64 | Summons/notice can be served electronically |

Trials are now expected to conclude within 45 days of charges being framed in most cases. If you're checking a specific appeal limitation period, verify the exact BNSS section (S.415–432 range) against the old CrPC equivalent rather than assuming a 1:1 renumbering — some provisions were restructured, not just renamed.
Section numbers are frequently cited from memory in filings drafted before 1 July 2024 — always double-check whether a document you're relying on still uses IPC/CrPC numbering before citing it in anything filed after that date.
